Our Mission

Social Venture Group's mission is to increase the amount of and improve the effectiveness of targeted financial and other forms of giving to philanthropic opportunities in China by advising foundations, corporations and individual donors. SVG seeks to advocate for NGO capacity building & sector development through project analysis, assessment and due diligence of local projects, and building a community of investors who share a vision for investing in social causes in China for the 21st century.



Meet the SVG Team

Grace Chiang, Managing Director

Grace Chiang was previously Senior Manager of Strategy and Business Development for one of China’s top semiconductor foundries and IP design houses located in Shanghai. In charge of M&A and strategic initiatives for the company, she played a key role in the company's strategic partnerships as well as its Hong Kong IPO in 2004. Prior to moving to Shanghai, she worked as a financial analyst in Citigroup's Global Corporate & Investment Bank in New York City, focusing on risk assessment. Since 2004, Grace has been actively involved with a U.S.-based foundation that works with orphanages throughout China. She led a team of 20 Chinese on a medical mission to an orphanage in Anhui in 2006 and served as Finance Chair for an art charity benefit which raised funds and awareness for the foundation in 2004. She also has a successful track record in raising funds for Chinese social causes. She is from the United States, has a B.A. in Economics and International Relations from the University of Pennsylvania and is fluent in Mandarin and English.

Samuel Jones, Chairman of the Board

Samuel Jones has over ten years of work experience in China in the areas of organizational consulting, non-for-profit management, and training for expatriates in Shanghai. His expertise is in the areas of human development research and executive coaching. He was one of the founders of the Toastmasters organization in Shanghai in 1998 which now has over 200 people meeting around the city. In addition, he has been active in many NGO projects including leading a multi-national tsunami relief team to Thailand in 2005 and leading teams of Shanghai professionals to orphanages around China. He has a Master’s degree in Higher Education from Geneva College. Sam is from the United States, and he is fluent in English, Mandarin, and French.

Leo Zhang, Senior Research Analyst

Leo Zhang was previously a stock analyst for Polarities Securities Co., Ltd., performing strategy analysis and industry research on the Chinese and Hong Kong stock markets. He is a Financial Risk Management Charter holder and a member of the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP). Leo is also a member of the CFA (Charter Financial Analyst) Institution and a CFA level III candidate. His NGO experience includes leading a team of volunteers to work at an orphanage in Anhui Province in 2006. Leo has a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Fudan University. Leo is from Zhejiang Province in China, and he is fluent in Mandarin and English.



Nora Gao, Senior Manager- Business Development

Nora Gao was previously Senior Strategic Analyst for B&Q, a Fortune 500 Company in the home improvement industry, where she focused on business development and project analysis. Her work experience includes private equity fundraising, M&A initiatives, and serving as a company representative to outside parties. Nora received her Bachelor's degree in International Business and Management from Shanghai University. Her volunteer experience includes participating on a medical team to an orphanage in Anhui 2006. Nora is fluent in Mandarin and English, and she is a native of Shanghai, China.
